Well, For most people who have not seen the aircraft yet. If you will look at
the new Piper Turbo Saratoga you will find that they hange an Airconditioning
condensor out aft of the wing under the belly. It is retracted when it is
selected off. The set up is identical looking to the radiator installation that
Paul is showing us. The only difference is that IT IS RETRACTED during flight.
I am not sure if it can be flown with it down but it looks as if it can weather
flight. This set up will produce very strong loading forces on the mounts, much
like taking your hand and putting out the window of your car and moving it
while at highway speeds. I would be excited about this if it was retractable
and operate like the Piper Saratoga where it can be raised and lowered but I
would not suggest pitching one end of the radiator to increase flow through
because now you are messing with the flight dynamics that the aircraft was not
stressed or tested and intended for. Paul you said it yourself that the P-51
scoop is good but not efficient enough to bother with because we are not doing
400MPH like the P-51. Unducted this idea would be worse. Definitely "no free
lunch!" thank you Vance!
