Here is another P51 type system on a 13B rotary powered Lancair that failed
miserably. The owner claimed he just could not get the air to flow
through the four or five inch thick rad. He wound up totally removing
the system. He had the help of a professional heat transfer engineer.

Picture 2 is the original configuration and picture 1 is what was tried
to make it work.  The boundary layer bypass was removed.
Neither configurations worked worth a damn.

Both of these P51 type system designers unconsciously over estimated 
the pressure available to force air through a thick radiator at 100 
MPH climb speeds. Our airplanes are not P51's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
Perhaps from these experiences you can get a hint on where I am coming
from. I have seen many systems fail to cool in the last five years.
