Perhaps a little silicone heat transfer white grease would
be all that might
be needed. Would not hurt.

Not a bad idea Paul, I thought of thermal tranfer epoxy, might 
not tolerate enough heat.
 Here is another possibility for you Paul. How about a 
Ti22 plate? Yes it would be more expensive but in sheet/plate 
it doesn't cost as much as large solids. Thermal expansion 
closer to AL than steel,AND the coolest part is that it nitrides 
wonderfully and is SUPER HARD and tough. I'm sure you know Paul 
but for some of the others Titainum Nitride is the material used 
to make the gold colored coating on drills and other cutting tools. 
This could offer a hard surface even lighter than steel. Which ever 
way you go Paul, get the plates ground near thickness and water 
jet cut on the OD. Great way to keep them flat and low stress. Bill Jepson
