I'll say one thing about the RX8. It is the sports car bargain of the
century. I hustled it down my favorite South Mountain road at obscene
velocities today. Good thing Ernesto was not lurking around :)
The RX8 is worth twice what you pay for it. That is what you would have
to pay for an equivalent Porsche or Corvette and I am not even sure
the Porsche could keep up with it.
I also figure out a little more about why the steering is so great.
The computer "locks up" (for lack of a better term) the steering
rack when
you are going straight. This removes the tendency of rack and pinion
steering to bump steer the car. As soon as you touch
the wheel the steering is unlocked again. I am exaggerating but basically
it works something like that to a degree. It is the best of both worlds.
It has the non reverse characteristic of the old worm gear steering
with the excellent feel of rack and pinion.

Maybe I missed it, but what flavor RX-8 did you get? Color, options, etc.
And are they selling below MSRP now? Still $1000 over here.

Silver with red and black leather. I like the tan better but we were
between a rock and a hard spot with the registration fee (car tax) here in CA going
up to $800 a year today. BTW now you know why we are ready to kill the governor.
It is the 237 HP six speed stick with the GT package. I would gladly trade
some of the superb cornering and handling for a better ride on concrete freeways.
I am thinking of getting with Jim Mederer at Racing Beat and see if he
can change the springs and shocks. I guess I am getting old. They could call
it the old man's option. Vance did not mind as he rides around in a pick
up truck :)
We paid $500 under.
