It looks like you guys have figured out how to download ProDesktop.

As far as compatibility with XP, I use ProD with XP home to do most 
of my work. I have also used ProD with Windows 2000 Pro. I have
had great luck with both. Sorry if your experience has not been 
as good as mine. It is very possible that hardware graphics
accelerator compatibility is a big issue for ProD. I might just 
be lucky to be using it on two computers which happen to be
compatible. One of the computers is an older AMD powered clone, 
and the other is a brand new Gateway laptop with Celeron and built
in graphics card. On the Gateway  I have used it with graphics 
acceleration on or off (off because another program I use does have
problems with graphics acceleration). I have used it quite a bit 
with a dual monitor setup.

As far as supporting many file types, in addition to a half dozen 
variations of ProD and ProE files it can open 8 major types and
save as 13 different types. That seems like plenty to me since 
I have only used about 4 formats to accomplish all of my work. If you
have problems with DWG files try exporting as DXF. I have used both 
formats, though not with very large files.

The extra effort that PTC requires for you to register ProD seems
 well worth it to me. After all, they are giving you a program
which would otherwise cost hundreds of dollars. I don't do mechanical 
design for a living. I'm an electrical engineer. Perhaps I
would feel differently if I had to sit in front of ProD 8 hours a day.
