I was browsing in the library today and found the attached material (pdf
file) on centrifugal water pumps. A lot of useful information can be gleaned
from this plot, even though it is for a larger pump than the mazda needs.

The plot shows

Head capacity
Efficiency
Brake Horsepower (applied to the pump)
Water horsepower (absorbed by pumping the water)

Note that at zero flow the difference between the brake HP and water-HP goes
into heating the water. At zero flow the efficiency is zero.

Max efficiency is about 70%, and this is probably a good number for most
Centrifugal pumps.

Thanks Bill. If Vance gets that pump dyno working we will soon know the HP
consumption of the stock Mazda pump at higher RPM's than what we have been able
to run it at so far. If he don't my new 4 HP Kasuga mill motor will rev to
7000 RPM! :)
