Would it make sense to add enough flat area on the bottom (6 o'clock
position) to also allow a starter for pusher configurations or others

with

width restrictions?  Perhaps this might allow one casting to handle all
configurations without adding too much weight.  Those using the lower
starter position could bolt up engine mounts in this location, and just

cut

off the unnecessary sides of the casting.

Scott,
Good suggestion that a 6 O'clock starter position, as it would be
advantageous to some builders because of restricted space in the cowling.

However it would be difficult (if not impossible) with a Universal design
and the sides wouldn't be able to be just cut if as they are integral to the
strength of the total housing - not only that, they are the engine mounting
pads!!

Then again, Butch may have an option on this, I don't know.

I do know any extra area would add weight. George (down under)
