It is easier to start from scratch. Save the money and don't buy
the mount from Van. Jerry Hey builds a very nice and strong mount.
If that is not possible Jerry can start with any of them and cut off
what is not needed. In that case buy the conical as it is probably
the cheapest.

No need to pay for and cut up a complete mount. The business that supplies
engine mounts for Van's is in Tacoma, Washington. You can get a partial
mount that can then be added to as required for the rotary. You want to
get the mount with the firewall frame, fuselage mounts and landing gear
mounts all welded together. Brian Trubee can talk about this more in
detail as he built up his RV-4 engine mount this way. He powder coated it
when he was finished and it looks great. I can't remember the name of the
motor mount builder in Tacoma off the top of my head ..Brian? ..anyone?

of leaving the price of the mount out in the finishing kit if I wished.
But I wanted a spare. My approach to building was if it didnt work I could
rip the Mazda mount off and install a Lycosaurus on it and be done with it.
Van's is very sensitive with people trying to copy the mounts and starting
their own business so be very careful how you explain your intentions
to them.Another company out there making mounts for RV's is Conversion
Concepts. The link is on Tracy Crooks site. Conversion Concepts site
pictures are not up to date but they revised his mounts after the
monday morning quarterbacks, ( no offense guys...LOL),showed a
few design integrety issues. They have fixed them for the RV-6 from what I understand.

I just checked the web site and the RV6A mount now looks safe.
Still using the NC milled motor plate idea with an unnecessary amount of structure,
weight and cost for the lightly loaded rear rubber mounts.
Bill Mensinger at Sheet Craft here in Santa Paula can also build a mount
to your spec. He is my neighbor and he built my mount. Bill builds almost all
of the aluminum drop tanks you see on fire fighting helicopters around the
world. His prices are very reasonable. Here is a picture of my mount.
Jerry Hey did the expensive motor plate but other lower cost front rubber
bushing holders will work such as the Schertz beam.
