Turning the eshaft pulley around does not change the 
load and consequently the stress on the pulley bulkhead.

Belt driving anything on the plug side of the engine actually
reduces the front main bearing loads slightly.

The shaft bending loads go down with the radius of the shaft
to the fourth power. A 5 HP electric motor 5/8" shaft would
be .009 and a 1.2 inch (30MM) front e-shaft would be about .13 
or about 15 times stronger. The electric motor will typically
live 50 years.
