I had an unstable idle that surged back and forth in an 87 that I traced
back to a small crack in the rubber elbow in the intake. It would take in
too much air that would lean it out, then the computer would correct and the
whole thing would start over again. Kind of a computerized version of PIO.
Check your intake.
