Very sorry to hear about your accident.
I'd be interested in knowing how large the pipe was.  This gets attention
because I installed a 1/4" aluminum line as an overflow pipe from the
pressure cap to the overflow bottle, and thought later it may be too small.
It doesn't jeopardize the system because what the line can't handle would
escape through the upper gasket of the cap; but it would make a mess and
result in some coolant loss which wouldn't recover on cooldown.
