Thanks for the email.
The XADC (diamond chrome) coating you mentioned doesn't impart a cutting
surface to the metal substrate, such as a self-sharpening material, which is
engineered to shear, might. The diamond component of the bath is spherical,
not sharp. In fact, XADC has a CoF about 20% lower than our TDC, which is
pretty low to begin with.
Also, with aluminum we would first need to lay down a thin coating of
electroless nickel on the part, as the XADC and TDC coatings don't adhere
particularly well to aluminum, but do adhere well to nickel, which itself
adheres well to aluminum.
