That is what I did, a heater core (new) from a Ford Escort measures 7"x7"
and has straight inlet tubes, and a 5" cooling fan from McMaster Car blows
air through the core to a distribution box.

Is the core tough enough to tig weld AN fittings to it?

I used two 5" fans like those blowing through a small  oil cooler
for my cabin heat and find the airflow is poor.   I'm planning to
upgrade to a automotive style fan before next winter.
