Here is why that won't work. You need those diagonal motor mount tubes
to stabilize the mount horizontally. The come between the oil pan
and the motor mount tubes. Mount the rad duct/core holders to the
motor mount tubes. Also isolates the oil cooler and water rad from
engine vibration. Here is a shot of Perry Mick's rad duct made
from 1/8 thick mahogany door skin plywood and fiberglas both sides.
Carbon fiber would be a bit stiffer.

I was examining the photos attached to the message below and would like to toss this idea out: Why not extend the side tabs on the beam all the way to the rear (front) of the engine and adapt the rear mount attachment to them? Most of the oil pan bolts could then be used to secure the engine to the mount. I made a very rough (MS Word) sketch over Paul's 3D (sorry, I didn't have enough time to make it look pretty by putting the mount mods under the motor mount rods). This might give more support to the entire system and tie it all together, unless you guys feel that the oil pan will be enough by itself.

Bob in the future please don't send .doc files. that file was 3 meg.
Fills up my hard disk and takes too much time to download as I am still
on dial up. Print the text to a files as plain ASCII text and export
or screen capture the picture to Paint and save as jpg. I have to do
that on this end so it is a lot more work for me.
I was unable to load the picture anyway. As far as I can tell MS Word
stupidly converted a 60K jpg to a 3 meg .doc file :) I can guess what
you have in mind however.
No reason why that won't work and it is very similar or nearly identical
to the way it is done in the Questair Venture. Two tabs welded
on the aluminum pan are much cheaper and quite simple as in these photos.
They are perfectly adequate for the 50 to 75 pound static load and
450 pound 6 G hard landing load.
BTW Ed this is where I want my tabs.
