come up with of the Cat turbo compound. I would love to have some
better pictures of this engine.

The ring gear will work with a fluid coupling like most turbo compound
engines. You get one heck of a gear reduction there.

Do you happen to know how much reduction in fuel consumption this
turbo compound implementation  achieved. Diesel don't have a heck of a

lot

of energy
left in the exhaust like rotaries do.

I'll have to check around, Paul. It's been 10 years since I worked
there. While nearly every diesel engine went out the door with
turbocharger(s), relatively few had the turbocompounder. This seemed to
be an option on perhaps 10% of the industrial engines, which were used
for pumps, etc.

But I distinctly recall a drive off of the ring gear.
