Vance, I finally got your camera to download the video to the PC.
We did not have the right cable. I went to Best Buys and a knowledgeable
sales person told me digital cameras could not download video through a USB port.
He showed me the cable to buy which is a DV cable short for Digital Video.
Fortunately my new notebook computer had the right DV connector.
He also told me DV cables do not come with the cameras which I found
kind of strange. I bought one and hooked it up. Works like a charm
with the software you gave me. It also works with the Windows XP
software with I am reluctant say is easier to use than the JVC
software.
The non USB cable you gave me was for recording video out of the PC to
the camera. The USB cable you gave me worked fine for downloading
jpg's out of the memory card to the PC but would not work for video.
BTW that JVC authorized service shop called "George Meyer TV" in West LA
was useless. The owner saw what cables I had and either did not know about
the required DV cable or was scaming me for the $100 minimum service fee
just to plug it in his computer and try it. If it every breaks
don't take it there to have it fixed. Find some other place.
I have had much better luck with Sony products when it comes to
service. Of course they usually cost a lot more money too.
I was eying a digital video Sony camera that records directly on DVD.
both megapixel stills and video. That would be ideal for my purposes
as I can load it into any computer or operating system without
drivers or cables of any kind.
In short we are now all set up for the RX8 and RV6 shoot on Monday morning.
Here is a brief clip shooting from the side using Vance's camera.
I don't think shooting from the side is going to work that well.
This was done in the afternoon when the lighting was horrible.
