A common variation on the scam is that you sell something for, say,
$3,000. The buyer sends you a check for $5,000. You point out the error,
and they request a refund for the difference. So, you run over to
Western Union and wire the buyer $2,000. Two weeks later you learn that
the original check bounced, and you're out $2,000, and perhaps that item
you sold.
