begin to evaluate the new intake system until all the
other squawks are addressed.

yes. By all means. Keep making it look like a collection of junk yard
parts tracy. There are too many slick outfits around selling 250 HP
subaru
engine conversion like eginfeller and crossfire. dave atkins has a
much
more professional looking installation. you don't want to
get confused with them. think how many gear boxes and computers you
would
then have to make. No time left for fooling around. J.C.
I propose a new guideline. Only those who have achieved flying rotary
installations shall be allowed the privilege of looking down from on
high and critiquing others. All in favor?

Neigh. If that was the case it would take a 100 years and untold number
of lives. During the last six and a half years we have lost two lives
in rotary powered airplane crashes by people that were not on here!
That is not good PR for rotary powered airplanes. We have a lot
of intelligent engineers (myself not included) on here who have not flown
their own airplane yet. I want to read their criticism.
Furthermore if somebody votes yes I will ignore the post.

Good grief Paul! Who's advocating silent endorsement of faulty engine
installations? Not me. If I've got a problem, I too want to hear about
it. If you just think my engine installation is ugly, you can keep that
to yourself... until you have one flying that looks better :)

There is nothing wrong with ugly. What is wrong is the use of parts that
are not up to the reliability standards called for in aircraft service.
That is not the same thing as saying all automotive parts are bad.
If there are better parts available with proven reliability records they
should be used regardless of the cost. There are situations in the West
and probably the East in marginal weather where you need to climb at
max angle. Perhaps it is a cloud bank obscuring some mountains or other
obstructions. If your engine overheats and fails just when you need it
the most that is a safety issues. The cooling system should be designed to work
under the worst conditions indefinitely. All real aircraft engines
are designed to meet that criteria. The Mazda rotary is capable but it needs
a good cooling system. We are slowly getting there.
