The trick is different adapters from the oval shaped or double
circle ports to round tubes. Fortunately help is on the way.
Rhino has a command called "unroll developed surfaces" that
generates a pattern that is then cut out of soft .063 6061-O and
rolled up and welded along the seam. That gives you an adapter
that can then be shaped into what you need without any
stretching of metal.

I have long thought that simple intake adapters for the various
rotary engines were the way to go.  The adapters would have a
flange at each end - one bolts to the engine and another bolts to
the round intake pipe flange.

My concern was the number of variations required:
        1) Multiple rotary engines
        2) Multiple intake pipe diameters
        3) Multiple intake configurations
                a) Separate pri & sec runners
                b) Combined pri & sec runners
        4) Multiple porting variations
        5) Multiple angle adaptations
                a) straight through
                b) built in 90 degree turn

Once these adapters became available, we could simply weld flanges
to the intake runners and bolt everything together.  It should
make for a very light induction system.

I think this is worth pursuing.  I'd be more interested in these
adapters than your previous manifold casting.  (Good job, by the
way.)

I'd vote for a straight through combined pri & sec into a single
runner of the same intake area (2"?).  This would be the simplest
for the builder.

I have a pattern already for the second gen four port. Maybe I will
get a bunch cast up.

It is right in here where most people run into fabrications problems.
You can't just squash the pipe flat. The area becomes less than the
round part of the pipe.

Yes the intake manifold flange is not shown.

I was kind of curious what a straight manifold would look like. Not
likely to fit in the average Long EZ. Might fit in the wing of a twin
with partially buried engines. The firewall is only 24 inches in
diameter. No cooling rads or muffler.

Its well over 20 inches out from the block with plenum and fuel
rail. 26 inches out from centerline. It might fit if we put a couple of
jogs in it.
I really don't think straight is all that important.
I think if it came straight out it would be above the wing anyway.
Do you have a more detailed drawing showing the thrust line relatives
to the top of the spar?

Here is a 3D of a Long EZ. Looks like it will come straight out over the
wing.
