Today I took the first step of starting the engine and stumbled right
away.
Poured 3 qts of oil in and started cranking with the plugs off. Checked
the
oil and it was down. Means that the oil pump primed right away.
Overall it took about 7 qts. The bad part is that I had the turbo oil
feed
(original steel tube setup) disconnected and waiting for the oil to show
up
- no luck? I attached a clear hose and tried to pull vacuum, but I can
hear
the air whistling in the oil filler tube. I'm suspecting something wrong
with the oil pressure valve, but also want to hear from the experts.

What you are saying I think is you are getting no sign of oil at point A?
Fill me in here Bulent. What have you done if anything back by the oil
filter
mount?
Has the engine been apart? Perhaps some oil gallery O rings are missing.

Paul Lamar

That's correct Paul. At the fitting A coming from the banjo fitting on top
of the engine I don't get any oil. If I blow back, I can hear the air
hissing through the oil filler tube.

I did cut the original aluminum oil filter mount fitting just below the oil
filter, leaving the return oil threaded port. Welded shut both holes on top
and leaving both O-ring holes below. Something maybe wrong with this ?
But than again, why is the turbo feed line open to the oil pan space?
The engine was rebuild by a local Rotary racer with Tracy's recommended
mods. I installed the oil pressure valve by the back cover just before
installing the pan, and could have done something wrong there?

Sounds like you did Bulent. You are now going to have to perform
some delicate surgery. But first I need a couple more close up
pictures of the fitting. Also a close up picture of this part of the engine
with the fitting removed to be sure I understand how you made
the mod. Oil pressure at point A is critical as this point also
feeds the front main bearing. Good thing you did not start it up.

The second picture is of the part you modified is it not?
You might start looking for another one.

BTW your plumbing workmanship is superb. Maybe I need a vacation
in warm sunny southern Florida for a few days :)

It looks like the oil cooler is hooked up backwards relative to the
direction in the Mazda manual. Would this make a difference?

It might if it still had the thermostat.

Paul Lamar

Somebody once said that it did not make any difference? The oil still comes
strong from the hose after the cooler.
Bulent

Does yours still have the thermostat Bulent?
