There was an ad in RX Tuner magazine this month by the
company that supplied the synthetic oil used in the Lemans engine
to win Lemans.

Regular motor oil has a lot of additives that the rotary does not
need. These additives just gum up the rotors and the apex seal slots.

They also published an SAE 922375 paper on the subject.
It uses polybutene as the base stock.
 
I am ordering a case  tomorrow and will replace the oil in the RX8 engine.
They also have pre mix apex seal oil for the fuel.
