There was an ad in RX Tuner magazine this month by the
company that supplied the synthetic oil used in the Lemans engine
to win Lemans.
Regular motor oil has a lot of additives that the rotary does not
need. These additives just gum up the rotors and the apex seal slots.
The companies web site is http://www.idemitsu-usa.com
They also published an SAE 922375 paper on the subject.
It uses polybutene as the base stock I think.
I am ordering a case tomorrow and will replace the oil in the RX8 engine.
They also have pre mix apex seal oil for the fuel.

Here is the results of a test Idemitsu ran on engine oils from SAE 922375.
DI is an anti wear additive. This test is similar to the one we ran on oils
a few years ago with similar results. We cooked the oil for 30 minutes at 500 F
and they cooked the oil for 10 hours at 280 C or 536 F. Polyolester is turbine
oil I think.
The viscosity rating is a pour test where the volume of oil poured
in unit time is measured.
BTW according to this paper main and rotor bearings start to fail at 150 C or
302 F. Apex seals run at 240 C to 280 C or 464 F or 536 F.
Very very important to get the right oil to lube your apex seals.

Mike at Idemitsu (Apollo America) sent me case a couple of months back. I should have my 13BT back together in the next couple of weeks and I'll be running their lubes. I'll let you know what I can.

I think the Mazda dealers should be forced to use this oil in the rotaries.
When I took my RX8 into Santa Monica Mazda for the 15,000 mile service they
put cheap motor oil in it bought in 55 gallon drums I am sure. I requested
Mobile One but they said no. Now I have to suck it out and replace it with
the good stuff. Corvettes come with and use Mobile One.
