A center section with the filler tube passage cut away
looks as if it leaves a couple openings to be closed.
How is this done? Can't see any patches in the engine
photo.

Robert,
I don't know!
I do know you can weld cast iron by preheating it first, but I have
never
attempted it, although there is a chap I know who might - I will ask
him.

Robert,
I asked my welder mate and he said 'Cast iron is not a metal that is
readily conducive to welding, although it can be done is a speciality
welding'. He is a specialist welder from England and has extensive
experience in Aviation welding, his last job was building up blade tips on
jet engines. He said he wouldn't like to have to do it !
We also discussed the possibility of Brazing!
My guess is that he is filling the holes by Brazing or Epoxy( metal filled)!
