Have you considered Titanium bolts, I believe they have a similar
     > co-efficient to aluminium

Paul, We talked about this some time ago, I still like the idea.
Ti bolts with a belleville washer stack to prevent bolt stretch.

My data sources show titanium just as far from aluminum as carbon steel.
The austinetic stainless steels are closer, and are much less notch
sensitive.
The best bet is bellevilles and regular steel. I am doing a study on
bellevilles
for wood prop bolts, and they have a great deal of versatility.
