What is the core size should you shoot for if not using the stock oil cooler?  I actually just bought a Modine cooler on Ebay... its core (fin ?) size is 12.25"X5.75.2.25.  It will fit well in my
design, but I was not sure if it's large enough.  I was also worried about its pressure rating, but if that is what Mazda uses, I guess I don't need to worry about that anymore.

That sounds a bit small for a 13B. The stock 13B core is 18 or 19 by 5.75 by 2.25.

See the previous message. Modine pressure rating is 300 psi I think. Make sure you
pressure test it to well over 100 psi using a hydraulic pump
from a jack when using a non stock 2nd gen Mazda cooler. A failed oil 
cooler can kill you pretty quick. We have had two inflight fires with failed
oil coolers.
