Here is a good overview. Would make half of a great little jet
engine.

There is a statement in the latham-overview.jpg that one should pause
to
consider.  "...the air passes smoothly straight thru the compressor
with
practically no turbulence or heat rise."  If there is no heat rise,
there is no compression.  I suppose one could incorporate an
intercooler
integral to the compressor somway, but I don't see anything like that
here.

I'm no expert, but I know that the heat rise is much less when each
step is less.  About a pound per stage keeps things thermodynamically
effiecent.  That is, an axial compressor with 8 stages provding 8 lbs
of compression overall will heat less than a single stage compressing
8lbs.

Rules of thumb I learned while researching for the two stroke KKM.

I read a little of the Latham guys thread, we should invite him on
here, he sounds interesting.
