I had a mental block against this simple equation for quite some time.
When I saw it in NACA Report 786 it hit me like a ton of bricks.
Potential kinetic energy in the exhaust is M x V squared. Of course! Just 
like what happens when you crash your airplane. P sub t is the turbine
net HP out.

I now have all the arithmetic tools I need to to size the turbines.
Taking the turbine data from the Garrett new catalog and using the
efficiency number (efficiency becomes a known in the equation) they 
provide will give us the HP from those turbines by working backwards. 
One can also size an axial flow turbine using the same tools. 

Why Garrett is keeping the turbine  HP out a big deep dark secret is a mystery
when anybody can calculate it in an instant.
