HEY,PAUL I'm way behind on my newsletter reading. Life has been kicking my butt lately.I have A question about the electric assist turbocharger; Mazda is developing .
where are you getting you're information that this will soon see production, in one of Mazda cars.the only time I've heard of this is in their experimental hydrogen car.Mazda hasn't let out a word about this as far as I know. do you think this would aid in modifying it to ac use. cliff
I have no factual information other than this press release in Car & Driver.
It would just make sense that they had experience with it in the hydrogen
powered car that they would put it to practical use in the RX8. Elegantly
solves the age old problem of turbo lag. The third gen RX7 sequential turbo charger
was the ultimate complicated solution to the turbo lag problem.
If the Mazda engineers were real cleaver they could get a bit of
electric turbo compounding out of the turbo-motor-generator once the turbo
charger was up to speed by charging the battery.
Other than this battery charging function it is not much good for aircraft use.
After all an 80 amp alternator takes less than 2 HP to drive.
BTW everybody interested in hydrogen and fuel cells should read this
months (March) Scientific American article On the road to Fuel-Cell Cars.
page 62. I am surprised they did not mention the hydrogen powered RX8.
