     I was aware that It would make some difference, just didn't realize how much. I had always ran my engine with both top and bottom cowlings on. Finally got the rpm's up to 5100 static.  Last
week, after finally fixing my vapor lock issue, I ran the engine with the top cowling off for the first time.  5600 static rpm's.  Put the top cowling back on...5100 rpm's.  

Most likely a

combination of restricted airflow as well as ingesting heated air.
      I just finished making a ram air scoop which will both allow the engine to ingest outside air while on the ground, and have the benefit of ram air when in flight. Hopefully I will be able to
