I found a (manual) renesis engine from a wrecked
RX-8 with 1,000 miles on it for what seems like a
very reasonable price ($3,500 + shipping). The
salvage company says it has a cracked intake
manifold, but is otherwise intact. I asked for
digital picture and inquired about frontal impact to
the drive pulleys.
Does anyone have any other suggestions that might
help me to evaluate this engine from afar?

Just a quick heads up on these used Renesis prices, last week I phoned the
local Mazda dealer and asked what was the cost of a NEW replacement engine.
In Canadian $ I was told $4700.00, Automatic (x $.80 exchange) its $3760.00
US plus taxes, the Manual was $5000.00 which equates to $4000.00 US. This
included the fact that it would be shipped from US source, 10 days delivery.
This does not get you the manifolds or alternator but gives you a base for
comparison.
