Hi guys. I am VERY interested in a wankel replacement for a rotax
912 that I can buy from one of you. Richards numbers look good so
far. While some weight penalty is well worth it to get rotary
smoothness etc,  this 260lb number is out of the ball park. Most
Rotax airframes wouldn't handle it. For example Rans quotes a
250lb TOTAL firewall forward weight for their S7 Rotax
installation. Total means cowls, prop, spinner, mount, coolers,
everything and this is using a 160 lb engine/gearbox.
My cheque book is open. Please help me spend this money.

I don't really understand what you mean by the weight of the airframe won't
handle the weight of the single rotary?
The weight of the Motor is usually determined by the W&B of the aircraft,
this can be adjusted in a number of ways. Putting some counter weight in the
tail is not out of the question.
If your concerned about the weight being too much for the firewall and
engine frame - make them stronger.

This whole process shouldn't cost a great deal of money, but maybe a little
effort!
