This may have inadequate variables, but looking for optimum Gallons Per
Minute desired water pump flow for a 13B 2nd gen, at 6000 rpm but
boosted to 250 hp max (realistic is 200-225, but I dont want to
marginalize capacity). Assuming no more than 20 psi and no undue flow
restrictions.
Any takers on the math?
Why: spec'ing a racemate direct drive water pump and alternator.. I
intend to order in the next week and want to select the right one.. or
the "most right" one.

I can give you a guess. Unless it is 30 or 40 gallons per minute forget it.
The flow will depend somewhat on the heat exchanger you plan on using.
Two pass is slightly higher resistance than single pass.
Really nobody really knows as nobody other than Mazda has installed a true
metal temperature gage as far as I know. The metal temperature around
the lower spark plug near the combustion chamber is the bottom line.
The water temperature is only distantly related.

Why can't you just install a CHT thermocouple lead designed to fit around
the sparkplug and read the plug temps that way?

At the rotary Roundup last year, I gave charts that explain how to do the
tradeoff between water flow and air flow. This is just with respect to
getting the heat out of the engine to the radiator, and out of the radiator
into the air. Doesn't address Paul's concern about metal temperatures, but
for that, more flow is better.
