A lot of work has been completed on DI and a lot running in Marine
engines,
recreational vehicles and Government projects. Bill Jepson is working on
this as we speak
Parts are available, the only problem as I see it is the best placement of
the injector.
If Bill could get some info on where Mazda places the injector, DI can be
retro fitted to existing engines.
This may be an over simplification on my part, but that's how I see it.

Curtiss Wright, John Deere and RPI did a lot of R&D on rotary engine
direct injection
and wrote a lot of technical papers on the subject.
I can hardly wait to see what Mazda comes up with. If anybody can make it
work Mazda will.

Bill and I have had some discussions with Orbital, they do the Mercury
direct injection, as well as many others. However they won't supply parts.
They would be happy to do development work, I can't remember the cost
associated, but it was so large I immediately blocked it out of my mind.
I figured if Bill wasn't so busy working he would have this nutted out by
now.
The benefits for those who are unaware of the benefits, are that the fuel is
so well atomised that there is complete burn (complete combustion) and if
memory serves me, an extremely lean mixture can be much more easily ignited.
Another benefit is that injection can be accommodated well into the
compression stroke.

Of course it is expensive. I would not be surprised if Curtiss Wright,
John Deere and RPI combined have not already spent over 100 million.
Maybe Mazda knows something that nobody else discovered.
