The alternator belt dynamics, engine pulses and slightly out-of round
pulleys impose high vibration fatigue cycles on that tensioning
arm. That's
why they always fail.
Suggest you consider a rubber "Barry type" bushing on the engine
block to
terminate the tensioning arm and absorb the vibration.

I just realized that in the previous 64 years of my life I have not
spent one minute thinking about tensioning arms. So thanks for
waking me up.
Does it matter at all on which side of the alternator boss the arm
goes? What material would you recommend? Can the pivot arm be a
straight bar with a slot? Usually they are curved to match the arc
of the alternator as it pivots. Is vibration dampening of the pivot
arm something that is commonly done? Thanks, Jerry
