Rather than take the wings off just a slot in the
fuselage above
and below the spar caps would be required to get
the new spar caps in.

I should have some more early construction pictures.

These wings have a full-length main 'I-beam' spar
that is built up (glass-foam-glass), then laminated
to the inner skin of the lower half of each wing
(the skins are also a glass-foam-glass sandwich).
The carbon fiber portion of the spar cap structures
are actually part of the wing skins as supplied in
the kit.

The upper portion of the spar I-beam is bonded to
the inner skin of the upper wing half during wing
closeout.  This bond creates the complete upper spar
cap from the two components: CF in the wing skin and
the top of the I-beam.  Closeout is a complicated
and time-sensitive process that must be done exactly
right to assure complete upper spar cap-skin bonding
over the 27' wing.  Without adequate bonding, the
wings are likely to fail in compression of the upper
skin.  I can't quite tell from these pictures if
there was a spar cap bonding issue with this plane's
wing.

After assuring adequate bonding of the spar cap
during closeout, the leading edge and rear shear web
are glassed in.

The outer wing skins are actually quite thin and
fragile, although numerous laminations above, below,
and around the wings are used to secure the wings to
the fuselage using only the outer skin.

The strength of the wing depends on its entire
structure.  Therefore, I think it would be virtually
impossible to try and rebuild the spar systems of
this plane.

The expert in this area is Tom Scott, the current
owner of Quikkit, which makes the Glass Goose.

Looks like buying a new set of wings if they are made in female molds
and cutting the old wings off out side the fillets is the way to go.

Then grinding down the remaining fuse. and fillet material until
the new wings just fit... fillets included.

However I still think the current wings could be fixed saving
a lot of finish sanding and painting work.
One way is rout out .030 deep slots in the old spars caps in
three one inch wide slots leaving .2 inch wide lands between each
slot. The center slot should be about an inch wide depending on the
thickness of the foam/glass shear web. Flush SS pop rivets coated with
epoxy could then  be installed every inch on the two lands through
to the flanges on the shear webs. This would mechanical lock the spar
caps to the shear web both in tension and shear. Then carbon fiber
rod could be laid into the slots to strengthen the spar caps.
Maybe carbon is not what you want in an impact situation. Perhaps
glass or Kevlar roving would be better.
