Looking at the Bell 47 planet set up. We have a few trucks and the one
truck specifically is a Magirius Deutz with ZF diffs. this truck has a
planetary reduction drive which looks very similar to what i see in your
attachment in its wheel hubs. The exact ratio i'm not sure of but to
give you an indication of the torque and hp this planetary gear has to
endure is extremely high.The truck is a 6x6 with a 18 ton drill mounted
on it and still pulls a 8 ton compressor behind it. The engine is a V12
Deutz Air cooled developing 400hp.
My thinking is that possibly your Mack and International series trucks
may have simaler planetery set ups in there diffs. Although i feel the
Mack and Deutz are old school tech, and we should possibly be looking at
new era truck's with lighter and stronger planetery set ups in there
diff's. But looking at your attachment, the size and OD of the Bell 46
reduction looks very similer in design to what i mentioned.

Has anyone on this group been keeping track of David Algae's airplane?
He custom designed a gearbox to fit the LS-1 Chevy. Indy car
fabricator.
We just need to get him to see the light with Mazda instead of Bowtie.
The gearbox is Carbon Fiber and beautiful (seen in person at OSH), though
as yet unproven. He's got good credentials, however.
Pick a gearset, build some molds and lay it up. Sounds simple... :)
Maybe his design would be easy to adapt to the 13B. Custom bellhousing
should be the largest change. We might be able to talk him into it as a
side project to help with cashflow until he can get some kits sold.

Heat will soften the resin. Too risky. Not worth
the weight saving.
You can also build a gear box housing out of six inch diameter
thick wall aluminum tubing. You will need a lathe to make a PSRU anyway.
The last pic will give you an idea just how small and light
weight the Ford A4OD 2.85 planet set really is. Used in dozens, if
not scores, of PSRUs.

Paul speaking of PSRU's and constant speed props etc... Have you [ or
anyone else] looked at that Marcot [ spelling] drive It's supposedly a bit
more robust than Tracy's [ sorry Tracy not trying to de-tract from your
fine products] It is supposedly able to handle hydraulic prop's also. I
had
some info for it but can't seem to find it on my quick scan for it. Also
on
the subject for Mr. Alige's a/c. Truely looks like a screamer, it would
benefit from the power of a 20B or juiced up 13B, without question!!
I'm sure if he doesn't try a rotary in it sometime.. someone will.. and
will
show the light at that point.
Speaking of juice, is there any advantage to a p-port 13B on a decent [
not
stock] turbo? Is that just redundancy or a good combo?

The Marcot has been around for a few years and it is OK.
Not as efficient from a weight and cost stand point as a planetary gear
box based on the cheap 8 pound Ford A4OD gear set however. It is hard to
beat both from a cost and weight view point. $150 bucks from Slauson
Transmission parts. Mass production by automated machines
in the millions means quality control is super high. IMHO somebody
with an NC machine shop could make a fortune designing and making a
version that had the ability to accommodate a constant speed prop.

And, what is necessary for a A40D planetary gear PSRU to acomodate a
constant speed prop? And, which kind, electric, hydraulic?

It will work with an electric adjustable. It requires major
redesign with the cheaper and better hydraulic constant speed props.
Aluminum CS props are still king at Reno.
So far nobody has built a thin all carbon fiber blade electric adjustable
prop to my knowledge. MT and Hoffman electric adjustable are thick and
flexible wood with a thin overlay of glass mat. Tracy Saylor tried
a specifically designed MT and it was ten mph slower than his metal prop.
Thin tips are the hot tip :)
