Paul, 20 some years ago I was reading the tech write-up of a shaft
driven Suzuki motorcycle and I was shocked that they claimed 20% of the
HP was lost through parasitic drag in spinning the shaft. Has anyone ever
tried to determine how much HP is lost through a c6 planetary type of PSRU?

They were wrong. Planetaries are 95% to 98% efficient.
What I think they were referring to is the friction drag in any
internal combustion engine. The apex and side seals rubbing on the
rotor housing. The piston rings rubbing on the cylinders. The bearing
friction in turning the e-shaft and crankshaft. Yes... it is not metal to
metal but there is still friction there. That is one of the things
that heats the oil. The lifters working up and down in their bore.
The rocker arms working on their pivot shafts. etc. etc. etc..
After all... internal combustion engines can barely get 30% of
the energy out of a gallon of gas. I am not surprised that friction
alone plays a large role in the matter.

I understand by fixing the outer ring gear and having the prop PTO driven
from the planetary set the prop will rotate the same way as the sun gear.
Ie in the tractor config. the plane using a rotary and seen from the
cockpit, the prop rotates clockwise as does the engine e-shaft. Same as on
my C-150. Right peddle to overcome torque when climbing:) I thought this is
what Tracy's 2.85 gearbox did. Guess I am wrong or still confused. Is this
GIF contradictory to what you just sent? 3.17 ratio config as 2.83???

The 2.85:1 gear box works the same way with the same proper prop rotation. It
is a slightly different planet set with a larger sun gear and smaller
planet gears. The 2.85 is the front planet set part # 15 in the C6
and the 3.17 is the rear planet set part # 40. Study this dwg. (gif)
The 2.85 set is on the left in this pic and the 3.17 is on the right.
