   I also mentioned the reduced contact area to Ken but figured (
   guesstimated)
   the smaller contact area may well be off-set by the strength of the
   bigger
   teeth. If indeed his contact is correct ( no reason to believe he
   isn't),
   referring to the differences between the two sets of gears, there may be
   strength advantage with the bigger teeth.
   The transmission specialist mentioned he had seen many chipped Ford
   Planetary teeth, yet not see that problem with the Dodge - worth
   consideration.

One thing to remember is that the tooth with the larger root is almost
always stronger. The finer pitch gears are probably quieter.
