My recommendation is to stick with high capacity 12 volt batteries and
use modern bullet proof automobile circuits whenever possible to reduce
the current load.  For example the typical master solenoid coil needs 2
to 3 amps to hold the contacts in.  A solid state switch needs only a
few milliamps.  HID headlamps use only 2 to 3 amps and are brighter that
15 amp halogen lamps.  LED lighting for the panel would need only a
fraction of an amp.  A PWM powered fuel pump to regulate fuel pressure
would need much less average current than a DC powered pump and
conventional fuel pressure regulator.  Modern automobiles are loaded
with very reliable electrical components.  As an aside, I'd like to see
this group undertake the task of identifying and cataloging suitable
automobile items for aircraft use even though it would only be partially
rotary related.

BTW here is another good battery reference:

I  plan to use two high capacity lawn tractor batteries charged
separately from two small alternators.

Aubrey,  I'm very interested in the PWM powered fuel pump.  I've done some reaserch and it looks like (any) in-tank pump can be Pulse width modulated (PWM).  I also found some information on no return line pressure systems for fuel injection. Also Keene Bell Boost a Pump info.  Paul if these are to big let me know.  T.W.
