I tore down the PPort engine this evening. I did not spend a lot of
time examining the engine, but a few things were obvious.
First, it was clearly Rotor 2 (Rear rotor) which had the problem. The
inside had some discoloration & very slight rust traces. I believe the
damage to very minor - none of the areas come anything close to the
examples in Turrentine's video. For example I could not detect any of
the discolored areas using a fingernail. I believe most / all of the
traces will be removed by a proper cleaning. I think the discoloration
is due to evaporation residue that will come off when washed with cleaner.
I do not yet know why rotor 2 had a problem -- nothing was obviously
amiss as I tore it down. That will have to wait until I get the parts
in a parts washer & examine them closely. A crack is still possible --
one of the tension bolts had surface rust on it when removed. BUT - I
don't know if it was rusty when install, or what. The o-rings did not
appear to be split - but I have not examined all of them yet. One
o-ring around a tension bolt hole appeared to be misshapen, but that
could have happened during disassembly.
Rotor 1 was pristine. I know it flooded (badly) but removing the
coolant quickly & then dumping lots of oil into the rotor clearly saved
the day - no detectable rust.
So - so far so good. Not nearly as dreadful inside as I feared.

Do not use the separate O rings and washer seals around the tension
bolts. Those are Mickey Mouse. They have been known to fail. McMaster Carr caries
proper sealing washers for 75 cents each.
