So Ken tell us how the new wings tips worked
or did not work :) Do you have fuel in them yet?

   Works great, the wing extensions are 2ft longer on each wing for a
total of 22 square feet.
  People convinced me that the drooped tips were not the way to go,
 a fence would work better and they were right as the cruise
speed remained the same and it lowered the takeoff speed by 5 mph
which means a lot to a seaplane.
  When I first flew it with the extensions I had conventional ailerons
with gap seals but the role rate sucked and the stick pressure was too
heavy so I changed them over to a freeze type. The bottom scoops air
up and vents it out the top. The response was much quicker, the
stick pressure lighter and the drag on the bottom scoop induced yaw
so little rudder is needed to turn. No fuel in them as I already have
110 gallons.

Interesting. Thanks Ken. I take it you think the spar is strong
enough to take the extra bending load. If you put fuel in
them and suck the fuel from the root tanks first the bending
loads on the spar will be less.

  The spar is no problem as I have done stress testing and its good
for more than 6 Gs. I increased the spar straps from 1/4 to 5/16
so they are no problem but the weak link is the taper pins that are
3/4 inch at the large end so I am going to go to a strait pin of 3/4
or maybe 7/8 inch.
 I already have two tanks in the wings, pull from the root tanks
first and I also carry all my baggage in the wings.
