I have been through hell in the last couple
of days. My Windows notebook computer has two 35 gig partitions
and I would like to convert it to one 70 gig. I tried Symantec Norton
Partition Magic but it could not recognize the hard disk for
some strange reason. See the attached list of hardware.

For awhile there it would not boot
from the hard disk. I screwed around with it and screwed around
with it real late last night  using the Part. Magic boot CD
and I finally got it to boot up in Windows XP off the hard disk.
Blake helped out a alot.

It will not boot from a USB floppy either. The only kind
of floppy you can get for it. The so called rescue disk don't work.

I backed it up using a 350 gig USB NetDisk. Worked great.
Back in the old days fdisk came with DOS and this was trivial.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

  One thing I would use is "Norton Ghost" or a freeware equivalent.
There are some free software that do the same thing
."http://www.feyrer.de/g4u/" is one that has a bootabler CD ISO. These
softwares image the drive and let you copy the image back. You could
image the drive for disaster recovery purposes. You cannot change the
size of the partition in the proccess though......
 Now that you have a drive image, recovery from a major f*ck up is easy.
Unless there is a reason to have "One Big Drive" I would just make a
D: drive out of the rest of the drive. I like to do this anyway.
Programs on one partition, files on the other. I put all flies on the
second partition. Programs I download I put the packaged file on the
second partition. If I have to blow away the OS I can just reinstall
from the downloaded packages stored on the second partition. Oh, and
all my data files are on the second parttion also.
 At work I Ghost the OS drive and have a incremental tape backup of
the data drive. The data drive does not have programs installed to it.
If disaster stikes I can copy the image of the OS drive back and the
restore the data back.
I reGhost the drive after every major update. About once a month. I
keep two images.
