Hi Paul,
I have seen this remark a number of times.

To me, this is analogous to a piston moving up the cylinder, ie
carrying the combustion chamber to the spark plugs which are fixed in
the head; then, after ignition, moving back down the cylinder.

What is the significance of this rarely mentioned fact?

Well for one thing the center of the combustion process
moves side ways away from the plugs instead of just
getting further away. The flame front also moves in the same
direction. It takes a finite amount of time for the flame
front to reach the outer limits of the fuel air mixture. The
flame front does not travel upstream so to speak either.

Soon the spark plugs are completely shut out by the apex seals.
The other thing that is happening is the combustion process is
continually being exposed to new, relatively cool metal in the
rotor housing.

One gallon of water is about 8 pounds.

The e-shaft rotates 10 degrees in about 250 MILLIONTHS
of a second at about 8000 RPM.
On a 12 inch diameter that is 38 inches .1 inch
250 micro seconds is .00025 seconds one rev in .009
seconds or one foot in about .003 seconds or about 330 feet
per second if my arithmatic is right.
