One way around the side seal clearances is to put in bigger corner seals.

Sorry to be confusing Paul, the local racing chaps are making the corner
seals larger in diameter - not sure of material or hardness, but you could
do a Rockwell test on the originals.
It requires milling the rotor corner seal areas to the required size,
turning up some new corner seals to the required diameter ( probably chrome
molly) and slotting the seal.

This then takes -up the additional freeplay of the largest length side seal.
I don't think it's necessary in our application!
