Hi Dave,
That is good news. Do you have any idea what year Toyota that was
from. I
should be able to repeat the tests over here in Japan easily
Hi All,
for a pic go to Aust Ebay, Ebay .com.au and look for Toyota parts 4A
GE water pump.
This remote pump was used on all Corolla engines 88 thru 92. 2C,
single cam 2 valve, and, twin cam 4 valve engines 4A FE and 4A GE.

I found this 92 Supra pump on Auto Parts Warehouse for $71.50 US with free
stateside shipping. It has a picture included that can be enlarged. Is this
the correct animal? Rotation is CW looking at the pulley side I hope.

I tried to Aust. Ebay but was unsuccessful in navigating to the correct
place.

Doug URLs are fine if they are short. Long URLs wrap and are near
impossible to transfer. Use the Scrn capture button if the mac has
one, load the clipboard into a paint program and save it as a jpg.
Send the jpg. That is what I just did. Sometimes you can capture
the picture directly by pressing the right mouse button and save as.
In this case I was unable to do that.
Getting down to the gist of the problem this is a cartridge only.
Not a lot different than a 13B cartridge. You still need a water
pump housing. Separable water pump housing are getting rare.
Particular water pump housing with only one output. Most water
pump housing are cast in as part of the block. The same as the
RX8 water pump.
Here is a KSE racing pump for a Chevy V8 sprint car. Racing Beat
uses this pump on their real high HP rotaries.
I believe KSE makes a version that can be driven with a belt.

A bit overkill for our ap but you can gear it down.
If you are bound and determined to use a remote pump and you
can't find an off the shelf pump I may have at least one
casting left you can buy that fits the stock 13B cartridge.
I guess I was way ahead of my time on that product.

Here is the Corrola pump mentioned above.
#G3000-45470 Water Pump W/ Housing
ASCO/Aisin (OEM) $71.51
Vehicle:
1992 Toyota Corolla 4Dr Sedan
Fits Engine - Chassis:
4AFE ― AE92
Description: W/ Housing
Year: 8/1989-9/1992
-------------------------------------------
The Corrola is a small engine of about 100 HP.
You need about 30 gallons a minute as I recall at
around 6000 RPM. Don't forget to put back pressure
on the pump when you are testing it.

Paul,
Yes good points. I should have thought about the engine size.
For your info. I would like to mount the water pump remote for several
reasons. Probably my biggest concern is if the standard pump will be
adequate enough under a 50% increase in HP. I happen to believe like you
that in order for the rotary installations to the GA community's interest we
have to size the cooling system for the worst conditions. I don't know much
about your custom design pump though I am interested to hear about it. As
water pumps go I would prefer a style that has the inlet near the center of
the impeller and a mounting location that keeps the pump inlet flooded and
without drastic changes in flow direction before the inlet.
Additional considerations:
1. Wanting the engine parts to stay within the top cowl limit of my
airplane design. The SeaWind engine moment is already quite high and the
cowl draggy
2. The desire to use the narrow SeaWind motor mount and develop a mounting
system using the earlier 13B front housing. I did a lot of drawings to try a
S. beam style mount believe me but with the supercharger on one side near
the front and the turbo compound on the other side. it doesn't look like it
will go unless the beam is very wide or a new wider engine mount is
fabricated. (See next point)
4. The intent to reduce cowling drag of the standard cowl now width 39" by
reducing it to under 30" at the engine midline.
Yes I am working on the Rhino drawings now:) The water pump dimensions are
still an unknown however.

Actully if you butcher the stock 13B pump you can convert it
to remote use by welding or bolting a plate on the output
end and welding a tube to the plate. I also have one or two
casting left I will sell and ship.

Paul
It seems your pump fits my criteria for a central inlet. That is good news.
To clarify our discussion I've included a picture of Ed's modified pump fit
on the block for comparison with your remote design.
Your design eliminates the abrupt and torturous route the water must travel
and that alone will improve the pumping rate. I also see you have tested it
using your end mill set up. Am I correct in guessing you use the standard
Mazda impeller?
The design structurally looks very good. If it is a better performer than a
modified Mazda pump I am definitely interested in purchasing one. I
understand it still only a casting and needs some machining to finish it.
DougFir
The pictures you attached are my pictures? Ed who? :)
Straight in inlets are definitely more efficient than
the Mazda style right angle input. I notice Jim Mederer modified
the KSE pump for a straight in inlet. If you butcher
the stock 2nd gen 13B pump correctly you can add a straight
in inlet. Cut away everything inside the red line and weld
in a straight hose barb represented by the blue circle.
You now have a remote pump. Half the stock pump is merely
a glorified hose barb for the water coming out of the block.
Yes my remote pump uses a stock Mazda 2nd gen replacement cartridge.
