Heard a rumor on Denver TV of a complete Renesis recall for all RX8's
('04-06) but can't find any web confirmation.  Anyone hear that?

I believe this is what you maybe talking about.
However it is not relevant to aircraft.
The reason should be obvious.

2005 MAZDA RX8 Defect Summary:
IF CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES ARE PARKED AND THE ENGINE IS OPERATED AT
HIGH RPM'S FOR AN EXCESSIVE LENGTH OF TIME, SOME OF THE PARTS AROUND THE
EXHAUST SYSTEM CAN MELT AND PRODUCE A VARIETY OF MALFUNCTIONS. PROBLEMSCAUSED BY THE EXCESSIVE HEAT BUILD-UP CAN RANGE FROM INOPERATIVE OXYGEN
SENSOR, NEUTRAL SWITCH AND BACK UP LIGHTS, PROBLEMS WITH THE PARKING
BRAKES, MALFUNCTIONS OF THE GAS GAUGE AND/OR POSSIBLE FUEL LEAKS
RESULTING FROM HEAT DAMAGE TO THE FUEL TANK.
Defect Consequence:
FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A
FIRE.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE PARTS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 30,

Oh yes I forgot about that one. I took mine in and they added
a heat shield. Nothing happened to it before I took it in
to the dealer.

Same with me.  I've had no problems, but then I don't operate the engine
at high rpms while sitting still, either!

BTW, does the RX-8 have an event data recorder ('black box')?  I don't
see this in my owner's manual.  There are some privacy issues as to who
can access EDR data in the event of an accident.

I don't know about that. They could not store much unless they
have added a bunch of FLASH to the basic CPU in the PCM.

Come to think of it I had my RX8 up on a lift and I was looking for
the heat shield I thought they added. I could see nothing that
looked like an add on heat shield. Perhaps they merely flashed the
PCM to shut down the engine when somebody tries to do that.
