The ethanol costs about U$1,80 a gallon but we would take in account  20%
to 30% more fuel consumption.
My son tunned up an VW four cylinder 1,8 liter (water cooled)  using a
Schwitzer turbo compressor and is running 2,0 bar  on ethanol. He never

had

pre-detonation problem. ( besides I must tell you, that he sometimes ruins
metal head gaskets, but only when he tries to take off using his car...)
I intend to run my Renesis engine with just a turbo normalizer.
