Paul,  are you still sloping the sides of the oil pan to make it
narrower at the bottom?   Is the pan drain located on the rear
vertical face?  There does not seem to be room for it on the bottom
with the wedge plenum.  The drain from the PSRU cannot go on the
front vertical  face as access is blocked by the S-beam.  What
thickness aluminum on the rear face (rear strut loads)??.  What about
temp and level senders?  Something clever could be done on the back
face for a dip stick, I think.  I could go on but the state of my
confusion is now abundantly clear.  I would like to build one but not
another prototype.  Time to get it right.        Jerry

I would say it depends on the cooling arrangement.
For most under the engine rad configurations tapered
sides are the way to go. .125" thick on the back face for
rear mm brackets. All RX8 engines need deeper oil pans.

Looks like custom oil pans will be with us for the
foreseeable.

How deep is the pan at the back?   Jerry

It depends on the airplane Jerry. Firewall height and
hard points vary widely from airplane design to
airplane design.

BTW I think the shallow oil pan of the RX8 adds to the
current recall problems of oil seal O-rings.

I agree, but it is much easier now with the s-beam relocated down
and back.  There is a LOT more room for the pan.    When I build a
motor mount, I have a complete firewall mock up that is real world.
At that time it is easy to determine  what will fit.  Since the S-
beam relocation I have yet to see any engine mount that I cannot
install the pan above the X brace.

Your original design still applies which I will describe for the
benefit of those who may not be aware of it.  The sump will start
with a 2" vertical face  right behind S beam.  From there it will
angle downward to some depth that in ideal circumstances will align
closely with the angle of the upper radiator plenum.   The conflict
if any  will be between the "X" brace and the pan.  Both can be
"adjusted" to meet the circumstances.   A drawing of an "example" pan
that has all the bells and whistles is all I need.  I am more worried
about drains, temp senders and the dip stick than anything else.
