I need Tracy's opinion on yesterday's failure of two of my Mazda coil
packs. I was at 8500ft when the engine started misfiring. It then ran on
one rotor for a while and I was able to maintain flight at 80knots
then the  ignition circuit breaker popped because the coilpacks were
short circuit. I made a safe landing and when the rescue crew arrived I
wired the good coil packs to the trailing rotors and flew home.
The question is why did they fail? Remembering that I had two back coil
packs when I first started the engine. So that makes four. My engine
runs at about 200 F and there is some extra heat from the tangential
muffler which I am going to replace with a three into one system with no
muffler.
Are the pulses and voltages the same as with the stock system?

EM2.  I find that the fluorescent display washes out completely with the
sun on it, which seems to be half the time in Australia. What would it
cost to change to the large LCD type?
