Perry Mick has a turbo engine on a test stand and
he would like to test the LAEV prop. Here are some pictures.
This was a joint design and build effort of the ACRE.
Butch machined the mechanism and Perry built the blades.
It is a cockpit adjustable pitch prop.
Yes, the engine on my test stand is 1988 turbo. Probably only
around 200HP, not 250. The prop blades were built for tractor
reverse rotation.
I'd like to test the prop and blades as is, then
perhaps build a new set of blades that I can run on
my plane, which would still be 2.17 ratio reverse rotation,
but pusher instead of tractor.

Paul, I am finally back from Iraq and you can use my RD-1B, but
only if
I get to be first on the list to buy a prop if everything checks
out on
the engine stand. I do have the new Radiator to mount and the
Starter
is the main clearance obstacle.
Don't forget that my spacers are a little unique, they will
require the
additional space provided by that aluminum plate that you were
going to
trim down for me on your new band saw (any luck with that by the
way?
I am flying a cardinal to Mammoth the evening of Friday the 15th
and can
drop it off in Santa Paula or Camarillo on my way up (or on the way
back
on Sunday evening). Or you can come pick it up if you want. Or
even
better, if Perry can wait until I get the Rad positioned (a
couple of
months), then he can have it until I get closer to next flight
(Spring
or Summer).
Whats this about a pusher configuration? Did you get a new
plane or was
that Perry talking about his?

Perry has the prop in McMinnville. I have been
working on our house in Ventura full time. No
new airplanes. Perry has the Long EZE.
Perry, Dave is the ideal person to test that prop.
He has a 2.17 gear box and a turbo tractor.
We can build a test stand if necessary.
If it works out OK maybe we can get Butch to make
another hub for you. If Butch is not up for it I have
somebody with a NC shop in Santa Paula that can make
the parts. Dave can pay for them :)
Dave, I'll get your spacer shipped to you tomorrow or
the next day or you can stop by SZP and pick it up.
How's Ann? I'll bet she is happy to see you.
How much leave do you have Dave? They should give you
a year off.

take a couple more weeks at the end of the month.
